The village of Hotnitsa is located just to the north of Veliko Turnovo.
Here you will find a gorge, ecotrail and waterfall.
The carpark is located at the foot of the final waterfall from where steps lead up the hillside and a series of further steps and rickety wooden bridges criss-cross the gorge with more waterfalls and pools as you climb higher and higher.
The Ecotrail, steps, ladders, rock and bridges which have to be negotiated can become very slippery after rain and a good pair of shoes is a must.
The best time to visit, apart from a dry day, is up to June or from September. During summer the waterfalls can become trickles and not nearly as spectacular as when in full flow.
At the base of the falls there is also a picnic and barbeque area. There can be quite a few visitors on summer weekends and bank holidays but the area is peaceful with few people during the week.
Although some of the access requires the abilities of a mountain goat and some fences and walkways are in need of a little TLC, for those brave enough to venture high into the gorge, the rewards are great views and a story to tell.
